Click for the full recap of Monday’s Boston Marathon experience. Excerpts:
“Most of my waking hours since about 11am on Monday have been spent trying to figure out what happened during the first half of the marathon.
“…guy next to me says, “Hang in there buddy. Got some shade coming up.” I remember all I could say was, “it’s so hot.”
“…This race, more than any other, means the world to me. And I pride myself on never quitting, never letting up, always embracing the challenge of every run. So for both of those things to come crashing down at the same time… just tough.
“…When I made it back to the hotel, she was there to give a big hug - I could see through a few tears that she was hiding a sign in the corner of the lobby she’d made for the race. I went upstairs to clean up - when I made it back down, the crumpled sign was gone and in its place, she handed me a newly-bought card with the sweetest, most wonderful note inside. So even though I was disappointed, ashamed, and full of regret, I’d also never felt more full of love. And in that sense, the 2012 Boston Marathon was far better than anything I could have imagined.”

The only thing that I see that is distinctly different about me is: I’m not afraid to die on a treadmill. I will not be out-worked, period. You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me, you might be all of those things, you got it on me in nine categories. But if we get on the treadmill together, there’s two things: You’re getting off first, or I’m going to die. It’s really that simple, right?
…You’re not going to out-work me. It’s such a simple, basic concept. The guy who is willing to hustle the most is going to be the guy that just gets that loose ball. The majority of people who aren’t getting the places they want or aren’t achieving the things that they want in this business is strictly based on hustle. It’s strictly based on being out-worked; it’s strictly based on missing crucial opportunities. I say all the time if you stay ready, you ain’t gotta get ready.

New York City: 10 Days, 10 Frames
A handful from hundreds. Love that place.
Boston is 1 Month Away.
I ran the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday (before running another 9) - favorite route of any half I’ve run. I instagrammed/tweeted along the way and still PR’d (1:24:24).
Yesterday, someone sent me finish line videos from ABC7, and Brightroom posted pictures and other video online - I couldn’t resist.
You can see me turn around and take this picture after I cross.
On the Hanson Training Plan since late December.
Gonna pick up with Hal Higdon’s Boston Plan next week.

My 2011 in Infographics and Lunaracers.
Ran in 6 states, 4 countries, 3 continents. On beaches and over mountains. Through traffic and across bridges. In temperatures between 30 degrees and 112 degrees F.
Marathon PR’d twice.
Best is still yet to come.
Sunday morning…
I ran the Tucson Marathon with hopes of breaking 3 hours. Tried a new strategy for the first time: Just Run Fast Until You Can’t Anymore.
It worked - I knocked more than 10 minutes off my PR and finished just under 2:50.
I tried the Hanson Training Plan - Ioved it but probably could have used a few 18-20 milers.
Above is a collection of images (and words) I thought about to pass the time while I ran.
Next up: Boston 2012.
